Trusting Journalism

Doing great journalism may not be all it takes to earn the trust of a doubting public. Almost 70 percent of American adults across the political spectrum say their trust in the news media has declined in the past 10 years. Only Democrats and self-described liberals say their confidence has gone up more than down, and not by much. The good news: More than two-thirds of those who have lost trust say newsrooms can earn it back, including Republicans and self-described conservatives.

How? That’s the focus of Trusting Journalism, a course developed by Deborah Potter for newsrooms and journalism educators, which includes a syllabus and readings for teaching about trust in news. We hope you’ll take a look and let us know what you think.
